The presidents of student associations in Quarteira and Loulé came out in defense of the outgoing leader of the Socialist Youth of Loulé Hélder Semedo, after the internal split in this local structure, which led to the dissolution of the municipal secretariat and the consequent anticipation of elections.
The leaders of the Student Association of Quarteira João Pires and the Student Association of the City of Loulé Celso Dias reacted to the resignation of Hélder Semedo, taking different positions, affirming their support for the resigning president of the council.
Hélder Semedo presented his resignation from office last thursday, a day after three of the five members of the JS council secretariat left the body, claiming «a strong disagreement with the political conduct of the Municipality» by the now outgoing coordinator.
João Pires, from AE de Quarteira, came to the defense of the outgoing coordinator that same day, stating that he had “his unconditional support”.
“I am grateful for all the support given by the current leader [of JS/Loulé], because for the first time, in 12 years, the young people of Quarteira were heard in decisions that directly concern them, and this was only possible thanks to the spirit of dialogue demonstrated by the current leadership of young socialists from Loulé”, considered João Pires.
Celso Dias, from AE de Loulé, reacted to the layoffs on Friday, criticizing Hélder Semedo's internal opponents, who "are these kinds of situations that discredit politics together with young people."
«Despite the discontent of three individuals within JS Loulé, the structure cannot be blocked by mere personal interests by those who only want power for the sake of power and who do not look for ways to achieve their ends, even if this undermines their will of the municipality's youth”, accused the president of AE de Loulé.
The representative of the Loulé students had already reacted publicly, a day before, with a message on Facebook.
«This text was made with a single aim, to reinforce a friend. I hope it is coherent when I say that Hélder Semedo is and has always been an individual I could count on, in good times or bad, an individual who does not choose, distinguish or classify anyone. I hope that with this brief text I can make explicit the value of Hélder Semedo as an individual and as a person, remarkable, humble and friendly. May nothing get you down», wrote Celso Dias, on that social network.
The resignation of the municipal secretariat of JS/Loulé will force new elections and Hélder Semedo has already announced that he will be re-candidate for the leader of that party structure.
