socialist youthThree of the five members of the Socialist Youth secretariat of Loulé presented their resignation this Wednesday, motivated by “a strong disagreement with the Municipal Coordinator, Hélder Semedo, regarding the political conduct of the Municipality”.

Abel Matinhos, André Correia and Josiana Forte announced their decision in a press release and are now waiting for new elections to be called, as the dismissal of the majority of the executive body, «removes, under the JS statutes, the powers of the Municipal Secretariat, so it will be up to the President of the assembly of militants to call for elections for the organs of the municipality».

The fact that the outgoing members of the secretariat consider that “many of the positions taken by the council represent only the opinion and will of the coordinator and not that of the majority of militants, and many of them reflect issues sensitive and of high interest for the municipality's young people, so they would deserve a deep debate because of their importance».

"The resigning members also consider that throughout this year, the affronting positions taken by the council coordinator against militants of the structure itself, to resolve internal differences, unequivocally demonstrate the incapacity and lack of political conditions on the part of the council coordinator to assume with elevation the functions of high responsibility that it assumes», they add.

The three young socialists put forward examples, namely “the way in which the council coordinator Hélder Semedo has repeatedly criticized other structures of socialist youth and placed internal and external processes on militants of his own structure”.

The three resigning elements of the JS/Loulé board accuse Hélder Semedo of having assumed an “autistic posture” when he refused to hold an assembly of militants “to discuss the internal problems of JS Loulé”, last December.

“Finally, the Council Coordinator's vision of the structure of JS Loulé is frankly unrealistic. The recurring reference to it as the largest structure of JS in the Algarve, both in militants and in developed initiatives, is frankly far from reality. JS Loulé is only the fifth largest in number of militants and has less than a dozen active militants, and there is not a large involvement of young people in JS Loulé initiatives, nor does this translate into renewal and increase in numbers. of militancy that is necessary for the vitality of the structure», they conclude.

On the part of the former members of the JS/Loulé secretariat, it is hoped that their attitude “provokes a deep debate in the Socialist Youth of Loulé and that it gives militants back the floor for the political project they intend for the future”.
