IKEAThe leader of the Socialist Youth (JS) of Loulé defends, in a statement, that «the IKEA Portugal project in Loulé will bring immense advantages to the Algarve» and that «priority should be given to the realization of this type of projects», because «they aim to create incentives to settle young people in the region'.

The proposal of the Swedish group IKEA for the construction of the store and shopping center planned for the Algarve by 2015 is, for the leader of JS Hélder Semedo, «a very useful instrument to break with the difficulties of seasonality in the region and to combat unemployment young people in the Algarve”, even considering it as a “fundamental measure” for this purpose.

This position of the young leader of JS Loulé, thus contradicts the position taken by socialist councilors in the Chamber of Faro, which two weeks ago rejected the IKEA license application to build an access to the future commercial complex. The vote had the votes against the councilors of the PS and PCP, who are in the majority in the Farense executive, governed by the PSD/CDS coalition.

Helder SemedoHélder Semedo argues that “the project is a major factor in social and economic development for the south of the country, and the objective is that, to continue betting on the creation of opportunities for economic growth”.

The leader of the young socialists in Loulé also says that "the company has the capacity to generate employment very easily" and adds that he believes that the project, "as planned, will foster a new centrality in the region."

However, he added, this is an option that “comes from the previous PS government, which was already being implemented as a way to break the absence of large international investors in the Algarve”.

For Hélder Semedo, who also assumes responsibilities in the Political Commission of the PS Algarve, «the feasibility of projects of this caliber for the Central Algarve will not only reduce unemployment rates, but also combat the seasonality that greatly affects young people in the region» .
