45 exhibitors show the best of arbutus and ham production in Monchique

arbutusHam, sausages, medronho brandy, honeydew, liqueurs, bread, sweets, honey, jams, sausage pizzas, handicrafts are the main ingredients of the XVII Ham Fair and III Medronho Festival, which runs from 25 to 27 July, in S. Sebastião Park, in Monchique.

Luís Grade, vice president of the Chamber and responsible for organizing the event, told the Sul Informação that this year 45 exhibitors will be present, all from the municipality of Monchique. «In the current space [an old lumber mill] we have difficulty in welcoming all the exhibitors in the county. For this reason, and because the objective of the events is to make our products known and valued, we only accept exhibitors from Monchique», he added.

Monchique hamThroughout the weekend, the genuine and exclusive traditional Serra de Monchique ham and the much appreciated arbutus, slowly distilled in copper stills, will be shown, with Monchique being the largest producer of arbutus brandy in the country.

In this edition, musical animation will be a constant. So, on Friday, the 25th, after the inauguration «with a member of the Government», at 18:0, music performances with the Grupo Coral da Academia Sénior (21:00) and Eulália and Vânia Nunes ( 22:00).

But the highlights of the animation program will go to the concert by the musical group “Anjos”, on Saturday, at 22 pm and, on Sunday, to the performance of José Malhoa, at 00 pm.

Admission to the XVII Feira do Presunto and III Festival do Medronho is free.
