Two Germans, aged 65 and 75, were rescued this Saturday afternoon from a small beach with no access on the coast of Portimão, after their pleasure boat became out of control and ran aground on the rocks.

The two people had to be removed by a vertical rescue team from the Fire Department of Portimão, since the small beach, which the two Germans had managed to reach in the meantime, abandoning their boat, has no access by land and sea, due to the Southeastern swell, Ferragudo's lifeguard could not approach the site.

The alert, given by a person who was walking along the coast and realized the distress of the recreational boat's crew, was given at 16:01 pm, to the Maritime Operations Center.

The alert indicated that an ungoverned vessel was found, heading towards the rocks, in a bay next to the beach at Barranco das Canas.

In an operation coordinated by the Captaincy of the Port of Portimão, the Maritime Police immediately moved to the area by land and the Ferragudo lifeboat by sea. Upon arriving at the site, at 16:17 pm, they confirmed that the vessel was already stranded on the rocks, unrecoverable, and that two people were on the beach.

As it was not possible for the lifeboat to approach the beach, and the beach was not accessible by land, support was then requested from the Fire Department of Portimão, with a vertical rescue team.

The two Germans were eventually rescued at 19:30 pm, having been transported to the Hospital de Portimão, just as a precaution.

Curious about this story, given the identity of the almost shipwrecked, is that Praia do Barranco das Canas, the area where the recreational boat ran aground, is known locally as «Praia do Alemão».
