In the month that celebrates 58 years after the inauguration of the Arade River Dam, the Municipal Archives of Silves promotes, between May 2nd and May 30th, in the Paços do Concelho building, an exhibition alluding to the event.
The dam, which was designed as part of the Silves, Lagoa and Portimão Hydro-Agricultural Use Program to boost the agricultural sector in the municipality of Silves and the aforementioned neighboring municipalities, was completed in 1956, commemorating the 30th anniversary of the National Revolution ( May 28, 1926), which established the so-called Estado Novo.
The official documents of the Municipality of Silves on the subject, the course of construction, the lived environment, the emphasis given by the media, the guests, the ceremonies and speeches on the opening day are some of the facts described and illustrated in this exhibition.
The exhibition can be visited until the 30th of May, from 9:00 am to 17:00 pm.
