They say that the wine makes some Portuguese people sing Fado. As for some foreign tourists, apparently, he has the gift of making them sing Opera. The arrivals area of the Airport of Faro was the place chosen to carry out an action to promote the Algarve Wine Route, this Wednesday, in which they were given to taste some nectars produced in the region and launched the challenge of leaving discovering the Algarve's wines and wineries.

The tourists who joined the initiative, a kind of welcome cocktail with different types of wines and delicacies to accompany, thanked.

And, in the case of an Irish tourist, who had just arrived in the region with two friends, the sympathy was returned with the (talented) interpretation of an Opera aria, which echoed through the Algarve airport.

Such a surprising moment for those who welcomed, as the warm (and delicious) reception must seem to those who arrived. "It has been a success, the search and enjoyment of the flavors of the region", he assured the Sul Informação the president of the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA), who promoted the promotional action in partnership with the Algarve Wine Commission and the communication company «Dar que Falar».

«What we want to convey is that we already have quality wine, throughout the region, we have the Wine RouteTo Wine Guide, published and easily accessible and a Route of Wineries, to which seven producers have already joined, with associated programs of catering and accommodation», said Desidério Silva.

This type of initiative will make «Algarve wines become associated with our gastronomy, with our quality». “This is important for gastronomy, for the regional economy and for tourism as a whole. Hence our presence in this region, which is one of the main ports of entry for tourists in the region”, he summarized.

The president of CVA Carlos Garcias explained that this action was part of the Rota dos Vinhos communication plan. “Today we want to publicize the passport, the itineraries, which will allow the wineries to make the routes to visit the farms where the wine is produced”, he said.

But, more than that, the action on Wednesday wanted to make known «a complementary program to Sun and Sea, so that the interior of the Algarve can be known», he added.

“We have been welcomed. People have been joining in, tasting the wines and taking their passports with them. That's the most important thing, in the sense that they can travel during their stay. That is our intention,” added Carlos Garcias.

Algarve wines still find it difficult to enter the market…Algarvian

Over many years, a problem that was pointed out, when talking about the wine production sector in the Algarve, was the fact that it is difficult to find them in hotels and restaurants in the region, even to the astonishment of some tourists, who they asked for.

«This is our great war, the great battle that we have come to fight and that we would like to win. We want to reach catering and hospitality in a massive way. In other words, ensure that all restaurants, hotels and establishments that sell drinks have two or three wine references in the region», said Carlos Garcias.

“It's still not the way we want it, although there are already some signs that point to it. But we want hotels and restaurants in the region to have Algarve wines on their lists. This is important for the region's economy, to give this sign that there are quality wines», said Desidério Silva.
