A protest and vigil against any cuts in services at the Hospital de Portimão, within the scope of the ongoing restructuring, resulting from the creation of the Centro Hospitalar do Algarve, will take place this Saturday afternoon, the 5th, at 15 pm, next to the entrance to the HBA .

Sources from the medical and nursing sectors of that hospital yesterday assured the Sul Informação that the Palliative Care Unit, the only one in the whole Algarve, runs serious risks of being closed.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Centro Hospitalar do Algarve denied this possibility, but the truth is that fundamental changes occur in the services and specialties offered by Hospital de Portimão.

The cuts, guaranteed the sources contacted by our newspaper, have been made in a “more or less hidden way, with a dropper, even if they later say the opposite in the media and deny what is happening”.

In addition, they ensure employees from various sectors who spoke with the Sul Informação, in the hospital there is a climate of fear. Therefore, "there are officials who are afraid to participate [in the protest scheduled for this afternoon], for fear of being harmed later, in some way."

The protest was marked by the movement «For Our Health», which has a facebook page.
