More than 100 routes sold in 38 days, at an average of 2.646 per day, resulting in a direct economic impact calculated at 245.388,50 euros.

These are the main numbers of the success of another edition of Rota do Petisco de Portimão, which took place from September 6th to October 13th, in this city and also in Praia da Rocha, Alvor and Ferragudo.

These numbers mean an increase of 183% in the total of menus sold (100.551 Routes, of which 88.573 in the “Snack” modality and 11.978 in the “Regional Sweet”), but, as this year, the Route had fewer days than in 2012, considering this variant and comparing the daily average of Routes served, the growth was even more expressive, reaching 237%.

The numbers were presented by the organization, the association Teia d'Impulsos, at a party on Friday night, at Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes, in downtown Portimão and very close to where most of the action this Route of the Snack has passed.

Nuno Vieira, president of the association, points out that the more than 245 euros in direct return does not even take into account the «other accessory consumptions, as well as the indirect gains in terms of advertising for each of the establishments that adhere to Rota 2013».

It is «a value that gains even greater significance when placed in comparison with the investment made in the event, a direct investment of around 8.000 euros. However, taking into account the indirect costs, which were ensured as a result of established partnerships and voluntary work, it is estimated that the organization of this initiative had a total cost of around 70 thousand euros”, he adds.

But the numbers do not stop there – the Rota do Petisco took place over 38 days, in 70 establishments, seven zones, three parishes and two municipalities. 15 volunteers and
over a thousand other people directly involved in the event.

The solidarity aspect of Rota do Petisco, which involved requesting a donation of 1 euro for the acquisition of the passport, raised a total of 9.095,26 euros, an amount that will be distributed equally among the three chosen institutions: the Social and Parish Center of Nossa Senhora do Amparo (Portimão), the Bom Samaritano Children's Home (Alvor) and the Support Center for the Elderly of Ferragudo. “The petiscadores responded generously to this appeal”, says Teia d'Impulsos.

But Nuno Vieira stresses that, because the objective of Rota do Petisco is to bring entertainment and people to the streets, «perhaps even more important than the menus sold and the resulting values, was the fact that, for 38 days, the Rota do Petisco had transformed the city of Portimão and the towns of Alvor and Ferragudo. The streets were filled with people and the cultural entertainment associated with the event gave new life to the establishments and the surrounding areas».

And so, Rota achieved one of its main objectives: «creating a new relationship between citizens and the public space, encouraging them to leave their homes and discover the gastronomy and establishments of their locality in an environment of conviviality and sharing».

In fact, the event had a special impact among the locals: according to surveys carried out randomly during the event, 80% of the petiscadores were from the municipalities of Portimão and Lagoa.

It is also interesting to note that the majority decided to “do the Route” in groups, some even quite numerous, as around 20% of the respondents were part of groups of more than 10 people.

In its assessment of what was the third edition of Rota do Petisco, and the most successful so far, the association Teia d'Impulsos emphasizes the importance of "combining synergies".

«Based on partnerships between public entities, associations of citizens and companies, Rota has been, over the three years of its existence, an example of how union makes strength».

In this edition, the special highlight goes to the partnership with the Alvorecer association and to the support of the Parish Councils of Alvor and Ferragudo, which made it possible to extend the event beyond Portimão.

«We also need to thank those who, voluntarily, generously offered their know-how to build the means of dissemination and communication of the event, an area in which Rota do Petisco 2013 had a growing impact compared to previous years, expressed in the way it was reported in various media at national and international level».

It was promised that, in 2014, Rota do Petisco will return. «And with the balance made and all the suggestions registered, it will certainly come back in great shape!».
