The current president of the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA), Desidério Silva, leads the only list competing for the entity's elections for the next five years, which take place on August 6 (Tuesday), at 15 pm, in Faro.

The list for the Executive Committee also includes João Fernandes, currently director of the Algarve Hotel and Tourism School, and Carlos Luís, a travel agent in the region.

All will be sworn in on the same day, in a ceremony open to the media, starting at 17:30 pm.

The election will also determine the composition of the General Assembly of the RTA and the Marketing Council, a figure introduced by the new legal regime for the country's regional tourism areas, in force this May.

Álvaro Viegas (Association of Commerce and Services of the Algarve Region) reappears as chairman of the board of the General Assembly and as secretary Isolete Correia (Portuguese Association of Recreational Ports), who also holds the post.

The main novelty is registered with the Marketing Council, a body that did not exist in the Tourism Region until then and which will be responsible for approving and monitoring the marketing plan proposed by the Executive Committee.

Elidérico Viegas (Association of Hotels and Touristic Enterprises of the Algarve), Daniel do Adro (Association of Hotel and Similar Industries in the Algarve), Luís Tavares (Portuguese Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies), Joel Pais (Portuguese Association of Casinos), Laurentino de Almeida (Association of Non-Driver Car Hire Industry), Christopher Stilwell (Algarve Golfe) and Élio Vicente (Algarve Anima) will be the members of the newly created council.
