Jams, fleur de sel and wines are among the regional products in the Algarve that the president of the Tourism Region offered to British Prime Minister David Cameron, who is currently on holiday with his family in the Algarve.

The Algarve was David Cameron's chosen destination for a few days of vacation in the company of his wife and three children in the heart of the Monchique mountains, a haven for nature tourism and health and well-being, ideal for relaxing just a stone's throw from the beaches which are the region's calling card.

David Cameron is staying on a farm on the slopes of Foia, owned by an English citizen, with his wife Samantha and their three children, Nancy, Arthur and Florence. The entire area is under close police surveillance, both Portuguese and British.

On Monday, Cameron and his wife went to Aljezur, where, according to TVI24, they had breakfast at the café next to the municipal market, where they later shopped, namely fresh fish and squid.

For the president of Algarve tourism, this choice is justified by the quality of the region's offer and the «excellent safety conditions» of what is the biggest holiday destination in Portugal, which is a hallmark of the Algarve in Europe.

Desidério Silva marked this occasion with the dissemination and appreciation of a selection of excellent regional products, which he offered to the head of the Government of Her Majesty.

Cameron can enjoy carob and sweet potato jams with cinnamon from the Algarve's barrocal, hand-picked fleur de sel, red and rosé wines DOC Lagoa, olive oil, chilli and sardine paste.

The prime minister thus joins the thousands of tourists from the United Kingdom who every year elect the Algarve as a holiday destination, including politicians, footballers and other British public figures – the biggest source of tourists to the destination, with more than 4,5 million overnight stays in 2012.
