Thousands of people took to the streets this Saturday in three cities in the Algarve to join the protest «Fuck the Troika – The People are the One Who Orders the Most».

Em Faro. the demonstration mobilized around 6 thousand people and in Loulé around 800 citizens were mobilized, less than in Portimão, where there were between 2000 and 2500 demonstrators in the streets.

Em Faro, today's demonstration mobilized more people than last September, called by the same social movement. In Portimão, despite everything, there were fewer people to join, although there was even an extra incentive, the presence of the “Men of Fight”.

In all Algarve cities, and all over the country, the protest was accompanied by music, and of course the most sung was «Grândola, Vila Morena».

In Portimão, with the help of the Homem da Luta, the music and the demonstration departed from the square in front of the Casa Inglesa, traveled through the streets of the city center and returned to the riverside area.

In between, there was a lot of singing, especially “Grândola, Vila Morena”, as it could not be otherwise.

Upon arrival at the bandstand in front of the Casa Inglesa, the Homem da Luta once again sang, Zeca Afonso again, but now the chorus was “What is needed is to cheer the crowd up”, soon changed to “What is needed is to shake the crowd ».

Em Faro, the demonstration includes a live rabbit, but in a cage, and a dead rabbit, hanged. But these were not the only animals present: there were also dogs parading and, in Portimão, even a parrot!

Em Faro, while passing through the BPI counter, a poster was put up saying “The banker owes money here, but I am the one paying”. The poster left room for anyone who wanted to sign and there were hundreds of signatures.

In every city, there were posters and banners with slogans against the Government, the Troika, the taxes and the politicians. «No more pimps of the motherland and of us», «Refuse, resist, enough, wake up», «Whoever put you in the hole (PS, PSD, CDS) doesn't take you out of it», «Politicians are the gravediggers of the nation». “Down with political power. Not this democracy!”, “I want to live, I don't want to survive”, “Rabbit only on the plate” were some of the phrases.

Both in Portimão and in Faro, the demonstration ended with several people going up to the bandstands in both cities and talking to those who stayed until the end, many of them carrying banners and posters.
