Faro it will have a public bus terminal, which will be built next to the EVA Hotel, in a place currently used as a car park. This new infrastructure intends to replace the private terminal that occupies a large part of the ground floor of the hotel unit and will receive routes from all transport companies.

The mayor of Faro Macário Correia announced the construction of this new bus terminal in the radio program Impressões, jointly promoted by Sul Informação and by Radio University of Algarve Rua FM. The program can be heard again in its entirety tomorrow, Saturday, at 12 noon.

This is already one of the results of the Municipal Transit Commission, but it is not the one that will advance more quickly. "The urban transport network will improve a lot and in the coming months this will be visible", assured the mayor.

The new bus terminal is the result of the tender for the concession of municipal public transport, which was won by the transport company EVA, which is already responsible for urban routes and a large part of the intercity routes in Faro.

«The company that won was the one that was already here, but in completely different conditions. It will build a new bus station, because the one that exists, let's say, is the basement of a hotel and is private», he considered.

The new terminal "will be public and will be in the city, available to any operator who wants to use it and leave passengers there." “Right now we have a situation that I believe is rare in the country, that of being a private hotel basement, which serves as the arrival and departure point for all public careers”, illustrated Macário Correia.

Long before this new infrastructure comes into operation, many changes will be made to the road transport system of Faro. «In principle, on April 1st, a set of new buses may come into operation, with new timetables and a pass that is compatible in the different systems. At the moment, there is a pass for the Minibus and another for the other buses», revealed Macário Correia.

«There will be more connections to the Airport area, we will have vehicles with different conditions and characteristics. All that will change within two or three months. And this is already a sign of the decisions taken by the commission», he added.

Within the scope of this forum, which brings together technicians from the Chamber, security forces and companies in the sector, “the city's directional signage model has also been improved and dozens of modern passenger shelters will be placed, which today there are few, for people have more comfort while waiting for a car», said the mayor.
