The Orquestra do Algarve will give, on Friday, December 7th, at 10 am, a Christmas concert dedicated to schools, to be held at the Instituto D. Francisco Gomes pavilion (Casa dos Meninos), in Faro.

This concert is part of the work that OA has been directing towards schools and young people of school age, taking Christmas music as the motto for informal contact with this Orchestra and the orchestral genre.

John Avery, Associate Conductor, directs this different concert, which aims to bring a special gift to the school community. The event, an initiative of the Orchestra with the support of the D. Francisco Gomes Institute (House of Boys) and sponsored by Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD), will have many surprises, musical and beyond.

Christmas concerts come as a gift to the public, with a repertoire from sacred to Christmas and with some surprises. On the 16th, at the Church of São Pedro do Mar in Quarteira, at 16:00 pm, on the 22nd, at the Municipal Auditorium in Lagoa, at 21:30 pm, and on the 23rd, at the Cine-Teatro de São Brás de Alportel, at 18:30 pm, the music will bring the joy of the festive season through the baton of conductor John Avery.

Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Berlioz, Rimsky-Korsakov, Prokofiev, Peter Warlock, Émile Waldteufel, Tchaikovsky, among others, are the composers who star in this program, which will not miss the sounds of bells and sleds.

The University of Algarve celebrates, on the 12th, its 33rd anniversary of existence. In addition to various activities that will be developed throughout the day, as usual, the commemorations end with a concert by the Orquestra do Algarve, to be held in the Grand Auditorium of the Campus de Gambelas, at 21 pm.

The concert, open to the community in general and with free admission, will be musically directed by Cesário Costa, OA's Main Guest Conductor. The works “Divertimento n.º 11 in D major, K.251”, by WA Mozart, and “Suite Checa Op. 39 in D major” by Antonin Dvorák mark the program for this concert on a special night.
