The presentation of the multi-year reading promotion project “A Minha Freguesia a Ler +” will take place on November 24, at 16:30 pm, at the Municipal Library of Silves. This pioneering project in the Algarve will be implemented from next year in several parishes in the municipality.
“My Freguesia a Ler +” is a program for the dissemination of reading and literacy, promoted by the Municipality of Silves, through its Library.
It starts at the beginning of next year and is based on three intervention areas: the creation of libraries at the headquarters of cultural and recreational associations, the formation of a network of local groups of reading volunteers and reading clubs and the promotion of regular actions to encourage reading and promote literacy with various segments of the public (from children to seniors) in various spaces, public and private, in the parishes.
With the development of this initiative, the Municipality of Silves intends to promote greater approximation and regular support to the culturally most needy realities, a growing social integration and community involvement through the encouragement of volunteering and a desired decentralization and itinerancy of cultural practices, dynamics and spaces.
Until the end of 2012, the various cultural and recreational associations of Parish Councils for this project will take place with the National Reading Plan, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, “Reading Volunteers” project. (from the Research Center for Interactive Technologies, Universidade Nova de Lisboa), State Secretariat for Culture / Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve and Terra Ruiva newspaper.
This presentation session will feature interventions by Fernando Pinto do Amaral (Commissioner of the National Reading Plan), Dália Paulo (Regional Director of Culture of the Algarve) and Helena Tapadinhas (educator, actress and creative), and with performance readings by Sandro William Junqueira (writer, trainer and actor/director) and Rui Cabrita (actor/director).
The various results of the work (pilot experience) already carried out since the middle of this year in the parish of Alcantarilha will also be presented in terms of dissemination of reading, namely in the existing informal partnership with Casa do Povo in Alcantarilha, Pêra and Armação de Pêra.
At the end of the presentation of the project “A Minha Freguesia a Ler +”, there will also be room for a small informal get-together animated by some musical notes.
