The Colégio Internacional de Vilamoura (CIV) once again joined the Christmas campaign “Shoe Box Apeal – Operation Christmas Child”, promoted by Samaritan's Purse International Relief. In keeping with the humanitarian values that guide its educational project, CIV involves students, parents and volunteers in this campaign, raising awareness from an early age on the importance of contributing to a greater good: that of giving.

Giving a Christmas gift to needy children, residing in Central European countries, Mozambique, Liberia and Swaziland, is the main objective of the “Shoe Box Appeal”.

This year, students of 21 nationalities, from kindergarten to secondary education, managed to contribute to this mission with 213 Christmas boxes. Secondary students were also able to gather a sum of 250 euros, through the organization of newsstands, to help defray the cost of postage.

The journey of this Christmas offer (toys, stationery, hygiene and clothing) and many others departing from all over the world, starts in a shoe box provided by Shoe World, wrapped in beautiful paper and decorated to each child's taste.

The first meeting point is in the United Kingdom, where every year close to a million boxes are shipped on boats that cross the ocean and are then distributed to hospitals, orphanages, refugee camps, homeless homes and areas where war and natural disasters left their mark.

This initiative encourages the solidary and human values that exist in each student, promoting individual and group work, and cements what is one of the pillars of the CIV's educational project: educating for values.
