In November, Orquestra do Algarve promotes a German Music Cycle, which starts this first weekend of the month, after the focus in October on English music.

Thus, the Orchestra presents, on the 2nd, at Teatro Cardenio in Ayamonte (at 20:30, local time), and on the 3rd, at the Albufeira Municipal Auditorium (at 21:30), a program dedicated to Carl von Weber and Beethoven, highlighting throughout the cycle, the symphonies of this last composer.

The concert starts with the Overture “Coriolanus”, followed by the “Concerto for Clarinet Nº 1” by Carl Weber, with the interpretation of the soloist Pedro Nuno, second clarinetist of the OA. Pedro Neves, principal conductor, closes the program with Beethoven's “Symphony nº 1”, the first of his nine symphonies.

The Cycle returns at the end of the month, on the 30th, this time at the Igreja do Carmo, in Tavira, (at 21 pm) and with the works “The Cave of Fingal” by Mendelssohn, the “Concert in A Major, KV 30” by Mozart, with the participation of the soloist Jorge Alves, and the “Symphony Nº 622” by Beethoven. This concert is also directed by conductor Pedro Neves.

On November 9th, Orquestra do Algarve presents the concert “Opera without Words”, at the Auditorium Pedro Ruivo of the Regional Conservatory of the Algarve “Maria Campina”, in Faro, by 21:30.

It will be a program of unsung opera, which includes a repertoire by composers such as Verdi, Pucinni, Wagner, among many others, directed by John Avery, associate conductor of the OA.

Arias from “The Joyful Comadres of Windsor” by Otto Nicolai, “La Traviata” by Verdi, “The Master Singers of Nuremberg” by Richard Wagner, “Iolanthe” by Arthur Sullivan, “Madame Butterfly” and “Hansel and Gretel”, among others are the motto to remember some of these memorable operas.

The Chamber Music Cycle returns to Orquestra do Algarve's programming, to bring different repertoires to the public, in more intimate environments.

In November, the concerts of this cycle take place at Igreja do Carmo in Tavira, on the 17th, and at the Municipal Museum of Faro, on the 18th, where a string quintet composed by musicians Krassimir Dzhambazov and Laurentiu Simões on violins, Ivetta Natzkaya on viola, Vasile Stanescu on cello and Jean-Christian Houde on double bass will perform the “Quintet for Strings nº. 2 in G Major Op. 77” by Antonin Dvorák and “Variations on a Theme by Tchaikovsky, Op. 35” by Anton Arensky.

 

Masterclass with Mexican maestro Jesús Medina

Between November 20th and 22nd, Orquestra do Algarve promotes the sixth edition of the International Masterclass of Orchestra Conducting, open to conductors of all nationalities, at the Grand Auditorium of the University of Algarve, in Faro.

Under the artistic guidance of Mexican maestro Jesús Medina, the Masterclass will have the participation of Orquestra do Algarve, with the repertoire centered on works by WA Mozart and Mexican composers Joaquín Gutiérrez Heras, José Pablo Moncayo and Eduardo Angulo.

This event ends on November 24, at the same location, with a concert open to the general public, at 21 pm, in which the OA will be directed by Jesús Medina in the same in-depth repertoire during the Masterclass.

The concert is chargeable and tickets can be purchased on the day of the show, at the entrance to the Grand Auditorium.
