The fire that, in July, devastated a vast area of Serra do Caldeirão, in the interior of the municipality of Tavira, is the reason for another nature walk promoted by the Núcleo do Algarve da Liga for Nature Protection on Saturday 3rd November.

From the 18th to the 22nd of July, 26442 hectares of forest, scrub, agricultural fields, as well as houses, outbuildings and agricultural implements were devoured by fire, in the municipalities of Tavira and São Brás de Alportel, in the middle of the Serra do Caldeirão.

At the beginning of the year, LPN Algarve had planned to take a walking tour in the area of Alcaria do Cume (Cachopo), to show the wealth of flora and fauna in this area and its scenic beauty. But the fire devoured it all.

Therefore, stresses LPN Algarve, «because we are an association for the defense of the Environment, we keep the tour in the area, but this time with an educational aspect and to call attention to the disastrous effects of disordering in our territory, which paves the way for these devastating fires'.

So, on Saturday, November 3rd, «after crossing, by car, the areas devastated by the fire, we will take a walk of about 2:30 am between Água de Tábuas and Porto Carvalhoso».

The meeting point for this activity will be at Alcaria do Cume (on the road between Tavira and Cachopo) at 9:30 am (note that the road from Tavira to Alcaria do Cume, given the poor condition of the road and its numerous curves, takes about 45 minutes to an hour). Afterwards, the group will continue by car along the road that connects Alcaria do Cume to Malhada do Judeu and Bemveja.

Registration is mandatory and must be made by 12:00 noon on November 1st (Thursday) to email [email protected] (indicating name, date of birth, ID number or Passport, for mandatory insurance purposes). The tour costs 1 euro for members and 5 euros for non-LPN members.
