Guided visits to Villa Romana da Corte, in São Bartolomeu de Messines, on the 28th and 29th of September, are the main novelty of the commemorations of the European Days of Culture, in Silves.

The visits take place under the motto “The Romans so close”. The first is scheduled for the 28th, at 10:00 am, and is aimed at the school community and participants in Senior Sports, stresses the municipality, which adds that the objective is “to make known particular aspects of the municipality's heritage, taking advantage of the team's presence. responsible for the excavations at the site to promote direct contact with the processes involved in an intervention of this nature».

The second visit will take place on September 29, also at 10:00 am, but this time it will be open to the general public.

Also on the 28th of September, the Municipal Museum of Archeology will provide the general public with the usual guided visits to the Cisterna Well, bringing visitors to know the aspects of constructive uniqueness of this monument, with about 18m in depth, in the historical and geographical context in which it is inserted.

Simultaneously, there will be a screening of the documentary “Al-mu'tamid – the fate of a Prince”, reviving biographical aspects of the one who was an eminent citizen of Silves in his heyday.

This day will end with the action “Sketching Patrimonium”, a creative activity that aims to reveal various perspectives of the cultural heritage of the city's historic centre, through the mobilization of Art students from Silves Secondary School who will be challenged to produce, in loco, “sketches” (sketches) of particular aspects, details, general views or moments of daily life in the historic centre.

This activity takes place from 14 pm onwards, is open to the general public and is subject to registration through the Heritage Sector (00 282 444) and Museum Sector (100 282 444 / 832 282 440) or by email addresses [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] ou [email protected].

On September 29, and with a view to «the playful interaction and conviviality between families, where the aim is to foster the team spirit and provide knowledge of the archaeological heritage of the county, in a perspective of continuity of heritage memory», the Municipal Museum From 10:00 am to 12:30 pm, the Archeology peddy paper “Discover your Museum” will be able to participate in this activity for families with children between 7 and 13 years old.

This day culminates with the presentation of the lecture “The Intangible Cultural Heritage”, by Professor Doctor Luís Marques.

The action will take place at the Municipal Museum of Archeology, between 15:00 pm and 16:00 pm, and presents itself as a reflection on the immaterial aspect of heritage, whose importance is generally still little realized but invariably present in the daily reflection, more than any other , the identities of communities.

The European Heritage Days, this year under the theme “The Future of Memory”, are an annual initiative of the Council of Europe and the European Union, involving around 50 countries, in the context of raising awareness among European citizens of the importance of safeguarding of Heritage.

At national level, this event is coordinated by the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage, which also defines the annual theme, with the participation of several hundred public and private entities, contemplating the realization of countless activities, accessible free of charge to the public, in its vast majority.

With the theme of this edition, "The Future of Memory", it is intended to promote the approximation of the public to cultural heritage, in its broadest sense, highlighting its importance as a memory and document of the history and development of societies and also its role for building the future.
