Five projects for startups – business ideas that could one day be companies – came out of the first Portimão Startup Weekend, which ran from Friday to Sunday in the cafeteria of the Portimão Museum.

It was 52 hours of hard work, team spirit, enthusiasm and good business ideas, in an entrepreneurial and inspiring weekend for everyone who responded to this challenge.

In this first Startup Weekend in the Algarve, 30 people participated, divided into seven teams, coming from all over the country, namely from Guimarães, Lisbon, and from various parts of the Algarve region, of course.

Working in the cafeteria area of the Portimão Museum, facing the Arade river and on a hot weekend and inviting them to the beach, the participants, their mentors and even the members of the jury who evaluated the proposals, resisted the temptation and threw themselves into the work of heart and soul.

«Because it is in the summer, in the Algarve, with other attractions, because it is the weekend of the Motard de Faro, we weren't expecting so many people», he told the Sul Informação Pedro Santos, one of those responsible for organizing the Startup Weekend in Portugal.

"There are people who came on purpose from Lisbon and other places farther away," he added.

Play Pal, Playin, Inspiring Vision, Go Seeds Go and GoThere are the names of the five projects that were presented to the jury at the end of Sunday afternoon by the teams that prepared them.

The Play Pal project, developed by a team that had an element from Portimão and another from Lisbon, intends to develop an internet portal that allows tickets to be booked for sporting events or games, through a community of sports practitioners.

The Playin project involved the creation of a web or android platform for a tourist itinerary, themed or not, with a playful component, through a game associated with the discovery of certain places in a city of choice. All you need is a mobile application that lets you see the general map of the city, choose the theme you like the most, and start playing.

The game involves answering fun questions and accepting some challenges. In the end, each user reviews the places visited on the project website, creates their own digital album, gathers photos and videos and shares it all on facebook or twitter.

Inspiring Vision is an interactive digital media agency, focused on 360º video production, creating interactive experiences to promote businesses and companies, namely making unique video presentations for customers' places or products, ensuring greater customer attractiveness.

Go Seeds Go is the world's first Seed Appstore. It is a platform that aims to create added value to the sale of seeds and also proposes to do seed research for its customers.

The objective is to provide a platform (web, Android, iOS) that allows the creation of an online market for seed varieties, helping people to place their products easily, allowing the sale of seeds in a package with complementary information.

Go Seeds Go promotes a crowd information platform. In order to promote biodiversity, personal health and a new way of living with Nature, the Go Seeds Go appstore focuses on utility, herbal medicine and rare seeds.

GoThere is an application (smart travel widget) for event websites, which allows you to provide, in real time, an integrated answer about the offer of accommodation, flights and other useful information for those who want to go to that event, without the need to do research on several complementary websites .

These five startup projects were developed over the weekend, with the precious collaboration of some mentors, including Francesco Berrettini, from Inesting, Pedro Soares, from Solar One, or Sandrine Marvão, a lawyer and entrepreneur.

In the end, the projects were presented to a jury consisting of Pedro Rocha Vieira, co-founder and president of Beta-i, the association that promotes these weekends in Portugal, Rodrigo Brum, who was chief of staff for the Economy and Finances of the last government of the Portuguese administration in Macau, Pedro Pequenochinho, chief of staff to the mayor of Portimão, and Walter Palma, director at Caixa Capital, of the Caixa Geral de Depósitos group.

For the first prize, a digital marketing course was reserved at Inesting, six months of accommodation in the incubation space in Portimão called wincube, as well as 20 hours of consultancy to carry out the company's business plan. There are also several awards given by Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Domain .co, among others.

André Marquet, director of Beta-i, said that «the ideas that have appeared in these Startup Weekends in Portugal are more or less on the same level as what is seen outside Portugal. In other words, it may even be a new idea in Portugal, but maybe it has already been presented in France or in another country. This means that Portugal has the same quality».

This was the second initiative resulting from the protocol between the Portimão Chamber and Beta-i (Association for the Promotion of Innovation and Entrepreneurship), to promote events in this city related to entrepreneurship.

This event had the local support of ETIC-Algarve and Inesting and the media partnership of Sul Informação.

CRIA- Regional Center for Innovation in the Algarve, the Academic Association of the University of Algarve, ANJE and NERA also joined in this initiative by supporting its dissemination to the community of entrepreneurs, entrepreneurs and students in the Algarve.
