This is an international initiative that aims to support the creation of new companies and businesses, in one of the regions of the country most affected by the economic crisis, but at the same time with greater potential for creating new opportunities.

The objective of this initiative is to support the creation of new companies and businesses in the region of the country with the highest unemployment rate, but where there is simultaneously greater potential for business diversification and creation of new opportunities complementary to tourism.

It is an intensive weekend where participants learn, network, build bridges between various trades and show the result of their work. The Startup Weekend event has the support of mentors and speakers, experts and local, national and international entrepreneurs, from various areas.

Startup Weekend is above all a relaxed and informal event that aims to create an environment where people passionate about entrepreneurship can come together and put their ideas into practice.

Pedro Rocha Vieira president of Beta-i says: «we believe that the Startup Weekend in the Algarve is extremely important to foster the creation of new businesses in a region that has enormous economic potential. Remember that Tourism is one of the key sectors of the national economy, new projects are needed, differentiators, which bring greater added value and variety to the sector and in particular to the Algarve region, so this bet has had the support of the first hour of Portimão City Hall».

For the Municipality of Portimão, «fostering the area of entrepreneurship implies creating conditions for carrying out initiatives that promote an entrepreneurial spirit, in addition to facilitating a set of instruments aimed at empowering entrepreneurs. In this sense, Portimão Startup Weekend is a unique opportunity to support the transformation of ideas into businesses, developing the local business fabric».
