A citizen of English nationality, passenger of the “Ryhdam”, which presented symptoms of a cerebrovascular accident (CVA) and was located 14 miles south of Sagres, was this Tuesday evacuated by helicopter by the Portuguese Air Force.

The operation was coordinated by the Navy, through its Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordinating Center (MRCC Lisbon), and in collaboration with the Portuguese Air Force.

The patient was transported to the Hospital and Santa Maria, where he was admitted in a stable situation.

The request for medical assistance was received at 19:05, on May 1st, and MRCC Lisboa immediately took over the coordination of operations.

After the medical evaluation carried out by CODU-MAR (Center for Guidance for Urgent Patients) of INEM, it was decided to evacuate the passenger of the ”Ryhdam”, a Dutch-flagged ship, by means of an EH 101 helicopter of the Portuguese Air Force, which was successfully carried out. the evacuation at 21:11 pm, to Figo Maduro's TA1.

Holland America Line's "Ryndam", with 1266 passengers and 618 crew, was the first of 13 cruise ships that, throughout the month of May, they will stop at the Port of Portimão. The ship had called at Portimão precisely this Tuesday, the 1st.
