The Port of Portimão will receive 13 ships during the month of May, totaling more than seven thousand passengers and 3400 crew, which will represent the biggest monthly movement throughout this year.

Tomorrow, the first ship to call in Portimão is the “Ryndam”, from Holland America Line, with 1266 passengers and 618 crew, followed by the “Saga Pearl II” (Saga) on the 2nd, with 512 tourists and one crew of 220 elements, while on May 3 it will be the turn of the “Grand Holiday” (Iberocruceros) to arrive in Portimão, carrying 1452 passengers and 714 crew.

Highlight on May 6th for the simultaneous stopovers of two ships from the same company specializing in the luxury segment, which will happen for the first time at the Port of Portimão, as the “Silver Explorer” and the “Silver Whisper” are expected on that date ” (Silversea), respectively with 132 passengers and 11 crew and 388 passengers and 287 crew.

The ship “Seabourn Sojourn” is scheduled to stop on May 12, which will bring 450 tourists and 335 crew, the next day the “Silver Cloud” (Silversea) is expected, with 296 passengers and 185 crew, while on the 15th it will be the turn of the “Adonia” (P&O Cruises), with 702 passengers and 372 crew, and on the 16th, the “Seabourn Pride” (Seabourn) docks in Portimão, with 200 passengers and a crew of 149 elements.

Portimão will receive on May 17 the “Minerva” (Swan Hellenic), which has a capacity of 335 passengers and 90 crew, while on the 18th it will be the turn of the cruise ship “Kristina Katarina” (Kristina Cruises), with 462 passengers and 160 crew.

After an interval of a few days, the Port of Portimão will stop on May 29 for the “Amadea” (Phoenix Reizen), which transports 584 passengers and 244 crew, with the last stop of the month reserved for the “Hamburg” ship. with 420 passengers.

For 2012, and so far, 45 stopovers are confirmed, with a slight decrease compared to last year.

Strategically located at the confluence between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, and bringing together unique natural conditions, in the last four years, the number of cruise passengers handled at the Port of Portimão grew 673%, from 5.798 passengers handled in 2007 to 44.841 passengers in 2011.

To make it even more attractive, the Municipality of Portimão considers that the Port of Portimão lacks «investments considered essential, such as the improvement of access to the port, the dredging of the channel and the maneuver basin of the port at an elevation of -10, the extension of the berths, the acquisition of a multifunctional tugboat to support the ships and the construction of a passenger terminal in good condition».
