Alcoutim Castle is already reclassified. Last Saturday, Alcoutim City Council inaugurated the works to improve the village's castle. The ceremony introduced the public to the new features of the fortress and was also marked by the launch of the catalog “10 years of Archaeological Works from Neolithic to Roman”, by Alexandra Gradim and João Luís Cardoso, and by the presentation of the watercolor exhibition “O Castelo ”, by Carlos Luz.

The work involved placing a protection on the walls, building a walkway in the Archeology Center, renovating and expanding the exhibition “Archaeological Heritage of Alcoutim” and replacing the roof and kitchen of the castle. Dália Paulo, regional director of Culture, praised the sensitivity of the municipality of Alcoutim in the county's commitment and cultural development, while Francisco Amaral, president of Alcoutim reaffirmed the differences in relation to the castle of his childhood. “It's a feeling of accomplishment”, he said.

The set of recovery works was supported by the Operational Program for Cross-border Cooperation Portugal-Spain for 75% of their value and is part of the Guaditer project.
