The case against the mayor of Silves in the Viga d'Ouro case was filed, the Sul Informação.

The criminal investigation judge of the Court of Portimão considered that, in addition to the matter having already expired, the factoring contracts had been made between the construction company Viga d'Ouro and a bank, thus not involving the City Council. Therefore, according to the Court, the accusation against the mayor Isabel Soares made no sense, that is, she did not have facts that could indicate the commission of a crime.

In statements to the Sul Informação, Isabel Soares just said that the filing means “a great relief”. However, he stressed, "no one pays me for the headaches, the worries and the heartache I had with all this".

The mayor of Silves Isabel Soares (PSD) was accused, in October of last year, along with two former councilors, by the Public Ministry (MP) of Silves, of the crime of abuse of power.

At the time, the mayor was "dismayed" at this accusation, all the more so, as she pointed out in a press conference that took place on October 19th, it was on his initiative that, when he became aware of the irregularities involving the Viga D'Ouro case, an internal inquiry was opened, conducted by a jurist outside the Silves Chamber. His conclusions, which showed serious facts, were then, by his "determination", sent to the Public Ministry. In other words, he stressed "it was the Municipality of Silves who gave rise to this case".

In this case, which dates back to 2004, in addition to Isabel Soares, former councilors José Paulo de Sousa and Domingos Garcia had been accused by the Public Ministry of the Court of Silves.

According to the accusation cited by "Correio da Manhã", the three mayors "violated the duties inherent to their political functions, calling into question the impartiality and credibility of the State administration".

The process in which the Public Prosecutor's Office has now filed an accusation is based on facts that occurred between December 2004 and July 2006, when the municipality handed over to the Viga d'Ouro company, by direct agreement and without a public tender, works in the supply network of water and drainage of domestic and rainwater wastewater.

O Sul Informação found that Isabel Soares and the remaining two defendants were notified of the filing order of the criminal investigation judge of Portimão on Monday, April 16th.

The Public Ministry now has 23 days to appeal the decision. If you do, the case will go to the Court of Appeal.
