Fábio Ferreira (Xyami/Fagor/Nova Vida) and Ana Antunes (JP Bike Clube) today won the Centro Marathon, the first race of the Portugal Cup of Marathons (XCM) Sport Zone.

Fábio Ferreira completely dominated the race, isolating himself early and finishing the 90,5 kilometers in 3h35m43s, leaving the second placed teammate Carlos Gomes at 8m05s. The third was the winner of the 2011 Portugal Cup, Nelson Sousa (Friends of the Mountain/Bike Space/Ledechem), at 8m52s.

Ana Antunes, national champion of marathons and holder of the title in the XCM Sport Zone Cup of Portugal, also did not give the opponents a chance. The JP Bike Clube cyclist completed the 70 kilometers of the women's race in 3h30m39s. In second place was the Estonian Marju Kivi (LivePlace by Pagagessos / Bicycles Santiago), at 3m51s, and in third place was Celina Carpinteiro (BTT Loulé / BPI), at 12m52s.

The absolute winners were also the first in the elite category. The best veteran A was Carlos Gomes, former road professional José Rosa (Ser e Opinion Team) won over veterans B and João Marques (BTT Seia) triumphed over veterans C. Lia Seabra (Galitos/Ciclismo 1904-Slowdown) won out among the veterans, while individual Pedro Garcia was quoted as the best in the paracycling category, a category that makes its debut in the XCM Sport Zone Cup of Portugal in 2012. BTT Seia won collectively.

The Centro Marathon brought together around 1500 participants, including nearly 500 federated, a new record for the participation of competitive athletes in a marathon of the Cup of Portugal.
