The national track selector Gabriel Mendes has pre-summoned 19 runners to start their preparations for the European Under-23 and Junior Championships, which will take place between 3 and 8 July, at the Velodrome Nacional, in Sangalhos.

The under-23 chosen by Gabriel Mendes are Ana Azenha (National Track School/Liberty Seguros), Andreia Ponte (CC Ouriquense), Fábio Silvestre (Leopard-Trek), Leonel Coutinho, Pedro Paulinho and Rafael Silva (Liberty Seguros/Feira/ Specialized), Samuel Magalhães and João Matias (ASC/KTM/Vitória).

The initial batch of juniors is composed of Joana Ferreira, Luís Gomes and Fábio Mansilhas (Silva & Vinha/ADRAP/Sentir Penafiel), José Mendes, Nelson Silva, Hugo Brito, Miguel Amorim and Pedro Brás (National Track School/Liberty Seguros) , João Silva (Belalgas/Matos Cheirinhos), César Martingil (CC José Maria Nicolau) and Ricardo Teixeira (Liberty Seguros/Feira/Specialized).

The National Track School, residing in a high-performance regime at the Velódromo Nacional, is the base of the Portuguese collective, but, in the period that still remains to define the final group, all the remaining pre-summoned will have the opportunity to do specific work together of the national technical director, in order to evolve in track disciplines and try to secure a place in the European Championship.

The National Velodrome hosts the European Championship for the second consecutive year.
