More than 3000 people participated this Sunday, the 18th, in the XIII Ria Formosa Marcha-Corrida. 2740 people were registered, but the organization believes that the number of effective participants was much higher.

Inserted in the program of events organized by the municipality, it is already the largest Marcha-Corrida in the Regional Calendar of Marches-Corrida in the Algarve. The contact with nature and the practice of physical exercise in the open air are the main attraction for this endurance event, which took place in the Ria Formosa Natural Park.

The competition had participants of all ages and was complemented with exhibition and sale by 30 artisans and several companies in the municipality.

From the opinion gathered at the end of the march from the participants, it can be concluded that «the degree of satisfaction with the initiative was very high», stresses the Chamber of Faro in a press release.

The march-race began at 10:00 am and participants were able to choose the distance of the desired route (5 km, 8 km or 10 km).

This project is part of the Strategy Faro Active and intends to make the citizen “more active” and to generalize the practice of sports, thus contributing to the improvement of their quality of life.

The Marcha-Corrida had as partners the GNR-Guarda Nacional Republicana, Parish Council of Montenegro, IPDJ-Portuguese Institute of Sports and Youth, Danone, Jumbo de Faro, Cacial-Agricultural Cooperative of Citrus Growers of the Algarve, Diocese of Algarve, Moto Clube de Faro, Hospital Privado do Algarve, Altimetria Sports Association, Agrosul, Mais Algarve Association; VivaFit, Urban Xpression Association, Folklore Group of Faro, Pinheiro e Rosa Secondary School, UAlg Higher School of Education and Communication and Vocational Training Center of the Employment and Vocational Training Institute.
