The Leya Bookstore in the Pátio, from Faro, has scheduled the presentation of the book “Henrique Galvão, um Hérói Português” for Saturday, March 31, at 16 pm, by the author, Francisco Teixeira da Mota.

Lawyer, columnist in leading national newspapers, and defender of human rights, Francisco Teixeira da Mota comes to Pátio to talk about the story of this “brave man, unafraid of the installed powers who crossed the XNUMXth century in a fearless way”.

Francisco Teixeira da Mota was born in Lisbon, in 1954. He graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Lisbon and holds a postgraduate degree from the Institute of Social Communication, at the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra.

A contributor to O Independente, he has been a columnist for the Público newspaper since its foundation and was co-author, with Paula Moura Pinheiro, of “Falatório”, a weekly program on RTP 2 dedicated to justice.

He currently participates in TVI's weekly debate program on current affairs, “A Torto ea Direito”, broadcast on Saturday nights.
He is the author of the works “Henrique Galvão”, “Esscribe Direito”, “Do Justice!”, “The European Court of Human Rights and Freedom of Expression” and “Alves Reis”.

 

About Henrique Galvão

Portuguese military, born in 1895 and died in 1970, he was administrator in the colonies and deputy to the National Assembly during the Estado Novo. Around 1950, he withdrew from the regime; was arrested in 1952, charged with conspiracy actions, escaping in 1959.

He later commanded armed operations against the regime, such as the kidnapping of the ship “Santa Maria” in 1961, which had strong international repercussions.

He is the author of several literary works, such as “Em Terra de Pretos, Crónicas d'Angola” (1929), “Revolução” (1931), “Contos Africanos” (1934), “Impala, Romance dos Bichos do Mato” (1946) , “Pel”e (1958), among many others. He received the 1st Prize for Colonial Literature for “O Velo d'Oiro”, and the Prize for Colonial Literature for “Terras do Feitiço” and “O Sol dos Trópicos”.
