The flavors of the mountainous area of the municipality of Tavira will once again be highlighted, from March 17th to April 15th, with the ninth edition of the Serrana Gastronomy Festival.

Almargem Restaurant (Santa Maria Parish), Casa de Pasto Fernanda (Conceição Parish), Monte Velho, O Constantino, Os Arcos da Serra (Santa Catarina da Fonte do Bispo Parish) and Ti Rosa Restaurant (Cachopo Parish) are establishments that will delight lovers of traditional cuisine.

As in previous editions, customers can win a weekend in one of the following hotel units: Pequeno Castelo (Santo Estêvão) and Apartamentos Turísticos Tavira Vacations (Santiago).

Promoting the flavors and knowledge of mountain people, as well as keeping alive the tradition of good food, are the main objectives of this Festival, already considered a reference event in the national gastronomic context.

The initiative is associated with the Slow Cities movement, and consequently with the Slow Food concept, which has as its main premise to live according to quality criteria, in which traditional cuisine is demarcated from the current food standard.

This year's edition of the Serrana Gastronomy Festival also highlights the Portuguese Candidacy of the Mediterranean Diet for UNESCO 2012 Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, together with Cyprus and Croatia.

The city of Tavira was chosen to represent our country, given the merit of its ancestral intangible heritage still very much alive throughout the territory, the landscape, productive and cultural diversity and the strongly Mediterranean identity.
