The public presentation of the Municipal Council of Youth will take place on Monday, March 26, in a ceremony scheduled for 18:30 at Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes.
Constituted to better promote the civic participation of young people, this consultative body will allow for closer relations between the local authority and youth structures, in order to refine the aspirations and aspirations of young people.
The new structure also aims to foster mechanisms of participatory democracy and contribute to a more effective municipal youth policy, based on associations and on concepts of volunteering, cooperation and solidarity.
Both the JSD of Portimão and the JS have already congratulated the socialist municipal executive of Portimão for the creation of this Municipal Youth Council.
The young social democrats of Portimão stressed, however, that the constitution of that body comes “1.410 days after [the Municipality of Portimão] had promised”.
JSD/Portimão recalls having been “the first Political Youth Organization, on the distant 4th of July 2008, to propose the creation and implementation of the Municipal Youth Council of Portimão”.
"After more than three years, more than 1.410 days, the Socialist Executive of the Municipality of Portimão has finally proposed, through Deliberation No. 172/12, the creation of the aforementioned Advisory Body", stresses that structure in a statement.
During this period, JSD/Portimão claims to have kept “its position unaltered and coherently, given that it was always due to the strong conviction that the Municipal Youth Council is important for Portimão and above all for young people from Portimão”.
JSD also recalls that, on 20 December, “at a meeting to implement the Youth Forum, JS and a representative of BE from Portimão demonstrated their willingness to converge efforts with what JSD/Portimão had been proposing about the immediate implementation of the Municipal Youth Council, which clearly demonstrated the consensus of the Political Youth Organizations present, that we unite essentially and whenever the rights and interests of young people from Portimo are at stake».
Meanwhile, the JS secretariat of Portimão also congratulated “the councilor Isabel Guerreiro for this important initiative, which will culminate in the creation of one of the most important mechanisms for civic participation for young people in Portimão, which will certainly give more voice to the associative movement contributing for the involvement of young people in the discussion and in the decisive process related to relevant policies for the city of Portimão».
“The quality of democracy always wins when young people are encouraged and trained to participate at this level”, emphasize the young socialists.
JS Portimão states that “it will continue to contribute to this process, and therefore intends to hold clarification sessions on the Municipal Youth Councils, as well as increase the dialogue with the associative movement of Portimão to reinforce the quality of the work that this body comes to play in the future'.
