The inauguration of the documentary exhibition “The Administrative Evolution of the Chamber”, which took place on September 7, in the hall of the Paços do Concelho de Olhão, was one of the highlights of the I Olhão Cultural Week entitled “Recortes de Olhão”, which ran until Sunday.

With this exhibition, which had never been done at the autarchy, the Culture Division made known some of the Municipality's estate, thus realizing the evolution of municipal functioning since 1826.

Among many other curiosities are, for example, the minutes of the first chamber meeting, dated precisely from that year, or one of the oldest typewriters used in the services.

On August 11, 1826, the first Municipal Council of Vila de Olhão da Restauração was named and on August 28 of the same year, as illustrated in the first Minutes of the City Council, the first meeting was held with the primary objective of taking possession of the whole. the executive.

The meeting took place at the President's residence, which at the time served as the Chamber House – so the minutes refer to – the then-appointed Juiz de Fora, Dr. António Malafaia Freire Teles.

Documents from the Accounting, Fees and Licenses, Treasury and Expedient sections, which organized and elaborated the General Correspondence Copier, as it still happens today, constitute inexhaustible sources of information for those dedicated to research and can be found in this exhibition, patent in an unlikely place.

In the middle of the cultural week, the deputy mayor of the Chamber António Pina made “a positive balance due to the large number of public, which shows that people are interested in knowing more about our history”.

The head of Culture Division Helena Barreto said, in turn, that the activities “have had the presence of a lot of people, which is a reason for us to be proud”.

At the end of the guided tour of the exhibition, carried out by the technique Helena Vinagre, councilor António Pina also announced that these activities were organized “with very little money, which proves that with imagination we can continue to offer quality to the people of Olhão”.
