The MYOS-National Association Against Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome -will promote in Albufeira, on the 24th of September, a Forum with a view to alerting official entities and public opinion to the reality of this pathology in Portugal. The initiative also aims to present the MYOS Nucleus, in Albufeira.
From 14:30 pm on September 24, Albufeira Municipal Auditorium opens its doors to the Forum on Fibromyalgia and CFS-Chronic Disease Syndrome, an organization of MYOS with the support of the municipality.
Cristina Fidalgo Sequeira, president of this non-profit association, emphasizes that it is important to develop awareness-raising actions so that “the attention of the greatest number of people to this reality, which often leads to patients' misunderstanding in their workplaces, is raised. part of friends and even family members”. The initiative also intends to “launch the challenge for the advancement of research both in relation to the causes of this pathology, and in the search for more effective treatments that are within the reach of most patients”.
Fibromyalgia is a rheumatic disease of unknown cause and functional nature, which causes widespread pain in soft tissues, whether muscles, ligaments or tendons. The pain caused by this pathology is accompanied by quantitative and qualitative sleep alterations, fatigue, headaches and cognitive alterations, such as memory loss, difficulty concentrating, irritability and depression, among many other symptoms.
