Operation Easter: PSP detained 544 people and recorded one death in a run-over

More than 540 people were detained by the PSP during the Easter in Safety 2024 operation, according to the report released today, which shows one fatal victim in the 1.352 accidents recorded.

Operation Easter in Security 2024 integrated three aspects – criminal prevention, road safety and safety in the use and handling of pyrotechnic items – and took place between the 22nd and 31st of March, recalls the PSP in a statement.

During this period, the PSP detained 544 people, 232 of which for road traffic crimes, namely 127 for driving under the influence of alcohol and 105 for lacking a legal license to drive.

65 drug trafficking suspects were also arrested, with the PSP seizing more than 9.525 individual doses.

The PSP also recorded 61 arrests for crimes against property (fraud, theft and robbery).

In the area of ​​road safety, 1.352 accidents were recorded, 72 fewer than in the same period last year. These disasters resulted in 15 serious injuries (three more) and 377 minor injuries (53 fewer), in addition to one fatality (six fewer), which resulted from being run over.

In the same period, 20.300 drivers were inspected throughout the national territory and 60.562 vehicles were monitored by radar. Of these, 656 were speeding, which corresponds to more than 15% of the total number of infractions.

Of the 4.483 offenses recorded, the PSP highlights 97 for driving under the influence of alcohol, 444 for lack of mandatory periodic inspection, 149 for lack of civil liability insurance, 98 for using a cell phone while driving and 43 for not using a seat belt. security.

During the operation, the PSP seized 19 firearms, 32 bladed weapons and more than 500 ammunition of various calibers.

In the 64 inspection actions within the scope of the exclusive jurisdiction of weapons and explosives, more than 395 kilos of explosive material and 24.288 pyrotechnic articles were also seized.

Regarding the PSP's competence in matters of border control, between the 22nd and 31st of March, 504.989 passengers were controlled at the air border.

In the note released today, the PSP also states that it detected four situations of sale of alcoholic beverages to minors, in a universe of 173 establishments inspected at national level.

In this action, 14 minors were detected consuming and/or purchasing alcoholic beverages, he adds.
