Government calls teachers to negotiate recovery of service time next week

The Program of the XXIV Constitutional Government, which is being debated in the Assembly of the Republic, provides for the recovery of teachers' service time «throughout the legislature, at the rate of 20% per year»

The Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation (MECI) has called teachers' unions to meetings next week, to begin negotiating the recovery of service time, the minister announced this Thursday, April 11.

«Next week, we will begin meetings with teachers' unions to begin the negotiation process for the recovery of service time», said Fernando Alexandre, during the debate on the program of the XXIV Constitutional Government, in Parliament.

In his first intervention, the minister considered it "urgent to find a response to the teachers' fair demands", stressing that the instability experienced in schools "must be overcome quickly".

The first meeting with the union organizations representing teachers will begin the negotiation of one of the teachers' main demands: the recovery of the six years, six months and 23 months of frozen service time that has not yet been accounted for.

The National Education Federation (FNE) told Lusa that it was called to a meeting on the 19th, Friday, at 17:30 pm, and it is not yet known when the remaining unions will be received.
