PS visited LAC on another campaign day

The head of the list Jamila Madeira asks us to look at culture, science and environmental protection as factors of progress and development

PS candidates for the Algarve visited this Tuesday, March 5th, the LAC – Laboratory of Creative Activities, which operates in the former prison establishment in Lagos and where each cell was transformed into a space for artistic creation.

The head of the list Jamila Madeira asks that we look at culture, science and environmental protection as factors of progress and development.

«We need to incorporate culture, as we already do with science and the environment, in the different disciplines of social progress. Assume cultural policy, not as something separate, but as an intrinsic and indispensable factor in human and economic development,” he says.

The PS candidates draw attention to the results of the academy, namely the Center for Research in Arts and Communication, and to the effect that artistic creation projects such as LAC, in Lagos or 289 and the old beer factory, in Faro, have in the region.

«For the Algarve, culture, artistic creation and heritage have a double meaning, the value of historical identity and the value of economic differentiation», argue the socialists.

Jamila Madeira lists some of the investments made and supported in recent years by the Government: the new Municipal Museum Dr. José Formosinho, in Lagos, the completion of the museumization of the Sagres Fortress and the new interpretative center of the discoveries, the Cine-Teatro António Pinheiro, in Tavira or projects such as “Lavrar o Mar”, Loulé Criativo and Tasa.

Candidates from the Socialist Party defend the reinforcement of the budget allocation for the “network culture” program, the first edition of which promoted by the Association of Municipalities of the Algarve involved a budget of 800 thousand euros and point to the development of projects in the cultural quarter, in Loulé, the recovery of the old beer factory, in the old town of Faro, the Sea Museum in Olhão, the appreciation of the castle of Aljezur and Rabat da Arrifana.
