PS admits result below expectations in the Algarve and promises to learn lessons from the defeat

Socialists go from five to three deputies for the Algarve

This evening, the PS lost two of the five deputies it elected in 2022 for the constituency of Faro and admits that the electoral result in the Algarve region “does not meet” his expectations.

The socialists were the biggest losers of the night, in the Algarve region, not only because they lost more than 17 thousand votes, from one election to the next, but also because they saw Chega take away their status as a political force with the most votes, in the district in Faro.

«We take due note of the dismay with which many Algarve residents expressed themselves and we will not remain indifferent to the expressed desire for more action and greater political visibility for our region», stated, in a press release, Luís Graça, president of PS Algarve and one of the three deputies that the PS elected in the region.

O Sul Informação He tried to get a vocal reaction from both Luís Graça and Jamila Madeira, head of the socialist list for the Algarve, but this was only conveyed in the form of a text signed by the president of the socialist federation.

«We note, with democratic humility, the significant increase in signs of dissatisfaction and protest, which require all democrats and, in particular, socialists, reflection and redoubled determination in the fight against social inequalities, by promoting the qualifications of young people and of quality employment and the proper social inclusion of the most fragile and unprotected", said Luís Graça.

In the note, the elected socialists promised to “work in the Assembly of the Republic, in close connection with our mayors, in the municipalities and parishes, in order to honor the trust that the Algarve placed in the Socialist Party and assume strong vigilance in the execution of projects and investments that are underway in our region, especially in the health sector, with the launch of the Central Hospital competition at the head».

The deputies elected by the PS, in the Algarve, also talk about the ongoing projects to “guarantee water”, namely the “construction of the Seawater Desalination Plant and the capture of water in Pomarão”.

«The construction, in partnership with the municipalities, of a Public Housing Park accessible to the middle class, workers and young people, the completion of the electrification works on the railway line, the construction of the Olhão bypass and the tender for the connection from São Brás de Alportel to Via do Infante. Investments in the National Health Service, such as the requalification of health centers, budgeted at 47 million euros, guaranteed in the PRR and the advancement of the Oncological Center and, as we assumed in the electoral campaign, we will propose the end of tolls on Via do Infante”, they assure.
