President of the Republic appointed Luís Montenegro as prime minister

The nomination took place after midnight, during the early hours of the morning.

The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, appointed Luís Montenegro as prime minister today, during an audience with the president of the PSD, already after midnight.

“Having the President of the Republic carried out a hearing of the parties and coalitions of parties that stood for the March 10 elections for the Assembly of the Republic and obtained deputy mandates, with the Democratic Alliance winning the elections in terms of mandates and votes, and having the Secretary General of the Socialist Party recognized and confirmed that he would be leader of the Opposition, the President of the Republic decided to nominate Dr. Luís Montenegro as Prime Minister”, explains the head of State, in a note published on the official website of the Presidency of the Republic in Internet, already after noon.

On the 28th Luís Montenegro will present the composition of the Government and will take office on April 2nd

The note adds that “in due course” Montenegro will present “to the President of the Republic the organization and composition of the XXIV Constitutional Government”.
