Portimão hosts screening of a film paying homage to Margarida Tengarrinha

This will be the commercial debut of “Clandestina”, which was part of the Portuguese Competition section in the last edition of DocLisboa

The film “Clandestina”, which is based on the book “Memórias de uma Falsificadora – A Luta na Clandestinidade pela Liberdade em Portugal” by Margarida Tengarrinha, will be shown this Friday, March 8, at Algarcine, in Portimão, with the presence by director Maria Mire.

This feature film, which will be shown commercially in several theaters across the country from March 7th, is part of the work “Memoirs of a Forger – A Luta na Clandestinidade pela Liberdade em Portugal” by Margarida Tengarrinha (1928-2023), artist , writer, teacher who before the 25th of April lived clandestinely in Portugal and who became a document forger for reasons of political activism.

Margarida Tengarrinha was born in Portimão in 1928 and passed away in October.

«The interest in making this film is linked both to the urgency of bringing out of the shadow the action of women who fought in a revolutionary way in this dark period of contemporary Portuguese history, as well as to thinking about the political dimension present in the small gestures of life everyday", says Maria Mire, who in 2020 made the short film “Parto Sem Dor”, a tribute to the obstetrician Cesina Bermudes (1908-2001), pioneer of the introduction of pain-free birth in Portugal and anti-fascist resistance, who He helped many women give birth in hiding.
