Fernando Pessanha wins Historical Essay Prize from the Union of Parishes of Faro

For his work “The knight Rui Valente: a pirate and privateer from Faro in the 15th century Algarve”

The Algarve historian Fernando Pessanha won the Historical Essay Prize from the Union of Parishes of Faro, for his work “The knight Rui Valente: a pirate and privateer from Faro in the 15th century Algarve”, announced this municipality, which will promote the publication of the work «in the second half of this year».

This is, according to the competition jury, made up of Jorge Carrega (president), Andreia Fidalgo and Luís Filipe Oliveira, from the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences of the University of Algarve, «a meritorious work that represents an important contribution to the history of Faro and whose scientific quality is unquestionable».

«This award is a strong contribution to the appreciation and increase of historical knowledge about the city, while at the same time being a stimulus to carry out more research work in Faro allowing a more robust and comprehensive knowledge of the history and identity of this important ancient city", said Bruno Lage, president of the Union of Parishes of Faro.

«This work is an example of that, contributing to greater knowledge and enriching the very rich and fascinating history of this city», he added.
