Exhibition on the centenary of the S. Luís Stadium will be opened at Palacete Belmarço

The exhibition will take place in other places in Faro

The exhibition “100 years of the S. Luís Stadium” will open next Monday, April 1st, from 11 am, at Palacete Belmarço.

The exhibition showcases this emblematic space in the city, which was born from the initiative of Manuel Silvestre Mendonça dos Santos, a businessman from Faro who made his fortune in the USA.

Officially opened on December 1, 1923, this stadium has seen great names in national and international football, and has also been the stage for great sporting moments (such as the 1991 Junior World Cup) and concerts by important names, such as Roxy Music , Dire Straits and Pavarotti.

This exhibition is the result of the winning proposal of the 3rd edition of the Participatory Budget of the Municipal Council of Faro and received monetary support of 30 thousand euros from the municipality.

The proposal was presented by Farense partner Pedro Gonçalves and the exhibition was organized by the Municipal Museum of Faro, with the support of CIAC-Center for Research in Arts and Communication of the University of Algarve, curated by researcher Jorge Carrega.

By the end of the year, it is expected to pass through the Municipal Market, the IPJ auditorium, the Liceu de Faro and the Library of the University of Algarve.
