Enrique Maranchon is the first leader of the Volta ao Concelho de Loulé

This Friday, the junior squad will return to the road for a stage with two sectors

Enrique Maranchon (Picusa Academy | Grupo Desportivo Cortizo) crossed the finish line of the first stage of the isolated Volta ao Concelho de Loulé this Thursday, March 28th and took the lead in the general classification of the Algarve race.

The first run was marked by a lot of rain and strong wind that limited the runners' action and ended up leading the organization to shorten the kilometers of this stage to 48, keeping the start in Ameixial and the finish at Avenida Laginha Serafim, in Loulé.
Roughly halfway through the stage, Enrique Maranchon attacked alone, a condition he maintained until the finish line.

The 18-year-old Spanish junior won with a 51-second advantage over the field, having completed the course in 1h13m46s.

Fellow Spaniard José María Pina (Valverde Team | Ricardo Fuentes) led the field at the finish and finished in second place. Daniel Moreira (Paredes / Fortunna) closed the podium, with the same time, having been the best Portuguese in the race.

The order of the stage, as well as Enrique Maranchon's 51 second advantage, are repeated in the general classification of the Algarve race. In addition to wearing yellow, Enrique Maranchon is also the leader of the remaining classifications: youth, points and mountain. Among the teams, Picusa Academy leads | Cortizo Sports Group.

This Friday, the junior peloton will return to the road for a stage with two sectors: an individual time trial of 11 kilometers, starting at 9:30 am, on the Loulé urban circuit, and a line stage, in the afternoon, of 74,4 kilometers, which will leave Quarteira at 16:20 pm and is scheduled to arrive at 18:19 pm, at Av. Laginha Serafim, in Loulé.
