Open Day of the Castro Marim and VRSA Sapal Reserve scheduled for April 14th

The program runs from 9:00 am to 17:30 pm and will take place at the headquarters and Interpretation Center of the Natural Reserve, in Sapal de Venta Moinhos

The Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António Sapal Natural Reserve will promote, on April 14th, an Open Day, full of initiatives in contact with nature.

The program runs from 9:00 am to 17:30 pm and will take place at the headquarters and Interpretation Center of the Natural Reserve, in Sapal de Venta Moinhos, municipality of Castro Marim. The activities are free, and it is necessary to register in advance for some of them.

This Open Day aims to provide a complete and family-friendly experience with multiple activities: a walking tour; a mountain bike ride; bird watching; archery; zumba; mini horse rides, among other proposals.

The program also includes a Traditional Products Fair, with the best delicacies and crafts from the region, and on a day focused on sustainability and the practice of healthy habits, it is also possible to have free blood glucose and blood pressure screenings.

The Open Day will also be hosted by groups from the dance schools ABC, ARUTLA and Conservatório Regional de Vila Real de Santo António (VRSA), as well as by the many activities of Scout Group No. 60 and Group 1370 of VRSA. The day ends in celebration, with a concert by SUGALAND-Band.

All activities are free, although prior registration is mandatory for Bird Watching, the mountain bike ride and the Marcha-Passeio, until April 11th, by clicking here.

The event is organized by the Co-management Commission of the Sapal de Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António Natural Reserve, of which the Algarve Intermunicipal Community (AMAL) is a part. Consult the detailed program here.

The Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António Sapal Natural Reserve, which celebrated its 27th anniversary on March 49, is located in the southeast of the Algarve, next to the mouth of the Guadiana River, covering an area of ​​2.307,99 hectares.

It encompasses salt marshes, bodies of brackish water, salt marshes and streams that extend across the municipalities of Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António, housing a high number of fauna and flora species.

This wetland of international importance was the first natural reserve to be created in Portugal, in 1975.
