Portimão publishes 10-day schedule for Carnival

The motto is the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April and the celebration of freedom

The Municipality of Portimão today released the Carnival program, which takes place between the 3rd and 13th of February and will have as its theme the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April and the celebration of freedom. 

The float parades will be inspired by the ideals of democracy and will feature 16 floats and five carnival groups.

On February 11th there will be two processions taking place simultaneously, starting at 15:30 pm, both in Mexilhoeira Grande and Figueira, with six floats, and in Alvor, with the participation of five vehicles.

The afternoon parade on the 13th (15:30 p.m.) will bring together all 16 vehicles decorated with themes alluding to the Carnation Revolution in the riverside area of ​​Portimão, and, upon returning home, the floats representing the communities of Alvor and Mexilhoeira Grande will entertain the streets of their places of origin.

The dances will take place at Boa Esperança Atlético Clube Portimonense (10 and 12 February – 21:30 pm; 13 February – 15:00 pm – Children’s matinee parade); Clube União Portimonense (February 10th – 20:30 pm; “Carnival Assault” and dance on February 12th – 21:30 pm); Sociedade Vencedora Portimonense (10 and 12 February – 21:30 pm; 13 February – 18:00 pm); Sporting Glória ou Morte Portimonense (3, 10, 12 and 13 February – 21:30 pm); Pedra Mourinha Sports and Recreational Club (9, 10, 11 and 12 February – 21:30 pm), Sociedade Recreativa Figueirense (11 and 13 February – 17:30 pm); Mexilhoeirense Instruction and Recreation Club (11th and 13th February – 17:30 pm); Ladeira do Vau Cultural and Sports Association (10th and 12th February – 21pm).

The program is organized by Portimão City Council, in collaboration with the parishes of Alvor, Mexilhoeira Grande and Portimão, and support from the Alvorense 1st December Cultural and Recreational Association; Ladeira do Vau Cultural and Sports Association; Boa Esperança Atlético Clube Portimonense; Mexilhoeirense Instruction and Recreation Club; Pedra Mourinha Sports and Recreation Club; Clube União Portimonense; National Listening Corps – Grouping 685 Alvor; Sporting Glória or Morte Portimonense; Sociedade Recreativa Figueirense; Sociedade Vencedora Portimonense and Sporting Glória ou Morte Portimonense.

Between the 9th and 12th Portimão also hosts the third edition of the Percussion Days, which includes live performances.
