Loulé will have a cycle path, measuring around 4 kilometres, which will connect the Barrocal roundabout to the Barreiras Brancas (Cilindro) roundabout, and this to the Health Centre, via the new section of the Circular Norte.
In statements to the Sul Informação, Vitor Aleixo stressed that «Loulé has to keep up with the times» and, therefore, «it has to have more space for mobility, for socializing and for people to walk».
«All of this implies adaptation: the adaptation of an important urban hub that knows that the climate is changing, knows that life is changing and has to follow the values that emerge and adapt to those same values, which are the of a sustainable city», said the mayor of Loulé.
This is a work designed within the scope of the construction of the new section of Circular Norte, which should be ready within a year or so, and the requalification of the section of the ring road between the Barrocal and Cilindro roundabouts.
«From Cilindro to Goncinha, that section of the ring road is very dilapidated and will now be redeveloped. These works will begin this year and will be completed this year as well. This is a requalification of the pavement, but it will provide and equip that section with a sidewalk and cycle path», explained Vitor Aleixo.
The project is therefore in line with what was also planned for the Circular Norte.
«This circular road will have a new feature, because it will have a pedestrian walkway, cycle path and trees. It will be a friendlier road circulation route with more urban characteristics, which will certainly change the profile of the city of Loulé, both in terms of mobility and in terms of road infrastructure, friendly to a more contemporary city", said the aedile.
In the words of Vitor Aleixo, this was «a necessary work» in the city of Loulé.
«This connection was missing between the Cilindro roundabout, which faces Barreiras Brancas and São Brás de Alportel, on national road 270, and the current health equipment and the Joaquim Vairinhos Pavilion. This leaves us with the Circular Norte completed, in fact, the Circular de Loulé, and a lot of traffic will be removed from the city center».
Speaking to our newspaper, Vitor Aleixo also revealed that, «soon», another cycle path project will be presented that will come from the Health Center and Pavilhão Joaquim Vairinhos to the end of Avenida Laginha Serafim, which passes in front of the Loulé Secondary School (route of approximately one kilometer).
After these three projects are completed, the city of Loulé will be equipped with five kilometers of cycle path, in addition to the 42 already existing throughout the municipality.
