Completion work on the Northern Ring of Loulé is about to begin

The work will cost around 5,1 million euros and is awaiting approval from the Court of Auditors

The work to complete the Circular Norte, with the construction of the section between the roundabout of the Municipal Pavilion and that of Barreiras Brancas (“Cylinder”), should begin “this month or at the beginning of the next”, announced this Tuesday, 25 October, the Loulé Chamber.

At a press conference on the balance sheet of the first year of this last term, Abílio Sousa, councilor responsible for Public Works, took the opportunity to discuss the situation regarding the closing of the Circular Norte, a long-desired investment.

The work will cost around 5,1 million euros and is awaiting approval from the Court of Auditors.

As soon as it has it, the autarchy “will carry out the act of consignment” of the contract, assured Abilio Sousa.

“This is an investment that is about to happen. We had some difficulties, because this involves 50 plots of land, but the process is complete”, explained the councilor.

The new section to be built will be different from the one that already exists (between the roundabout before the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Piedade and the roundabout near the Municipal Pavilion), as this will be a single road with two directions.

There will also be a lane for a cycle path and a pedestrian walkway.

The municipality is “expectant” about the start of this work, which has as its main objective “to remove vehicles from the city center, namely large ones”.

Moreover, the ambition to close the Circular Norte has lasted since February 2017.

At the time, the Câmara de Loulé and the company Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) concluded an agreement which allowed the municipality of Loulé to assume all the responsibilities of Estrada Nacional 270 – where the Circular Norte passes.

Thus, the costs of the work will all be borne by the Chamber.
