Man arrested at funeral home who paid doctor for fake death certificates

During the investigation, the PJ seized several firearms that the suspect held illegally.

A 60-year-old man, linked to a funeral home, was arrested this Tuesday, February 6th, on suspicion of paying a doctor from Loulé who issued death certificates without proving the causes of death.

The 65-year-old doctor had already been arrested in January.

Now, following the “Anúbis” operation, the Judiciary Police (PJ) says that this 60-year-old man is “strongly accused of having paid financial compensation to the doctor for issuing death certificates, with a view to speeding up funerals.” .

With this scheme, says the PJ, «they prevented the intervention of the judicial authorities or the carrying out of the medico-legal autopsy, under the legally stipulated terms, putting into question information about the true causes of death, including those that could result from the commission of crimes» .

During the investigation, the PJ seized several firearms that the suspect held illegally.

The detainee appeared in court this Wednesday, the 7th, and was ordered to prohibit contacting the other participant in the investigation and pay a deposit of 20 thousand euros.
