Adherence to the Mediterranean diet, sustainable eating and the fight against food waste in the Algarve region are the basis of the “Mediterranean Moment: A Right Dish… with Orange!” which will be promoted on Saturday, February 17th, at 11:30 am, at the 8th Mostra Silves Capital da Laranja, by chef Margarida Vargues.
The chef will prepare a dessert based on local products, such as almonds and carob, with an emphasis on Silves oranges.
The initiative is part of “Prato Certo”, a project that includes the promotion of Food Education actions, the creation of recipes inspired by seasonality and local production; planning weekly menus to save time and money, encouraging local production and consumption, among other areas.
In this sense, this project, promoted by the In Loco Association, in partnership with the Municipality of Silves, aims to «raise awareness among the entire community, helping them to opt, in an informed way, for food choices, in their daily lives, that have an underlying a tasty, healthy and economical diet, inspired by the principles of the Mediterranean diet (a lifestyle recognized by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage of humanity, and evaluated by the World Health Organization as a diet of exceptional quality and capable of minimizing the risks of insecurity food)”, explains the municipality.
O showcooking dedicated to Silves oranges and local products, entry is free and will take place outside in front of FISSUL.
Furthermore, everyone is invited to taste «other citrus flavors» at the 8th Orange Flavor Weekend, which will take place from the 16th to the 18th of February, in participating restaurants in Silves.
The “Prato Certo: Alimentação + Sustentável” project is promoted by the In Loco Association – Development and Citizenship, and is financed by PDR2020, Portugal 2020 and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.
