Algarve Local Health Unit receives 177 intern doctors and 4 pharmaceutical residents

The Algarve Local Health Unit (ULS) began the year with the reception of 177 interns who chose the Algarve health units to carry out their medical internship in General and Specialty Training, General and Family Medicine internship, and four pharmaceutical residents .

As part of Specialized Training, intern doctors were placed in medical units Faro and Portimão, in the following specialties: Anesthesiology (2), Cardiology (1), General Surgery (2), Pediatric Surgery (1), Infectious Diseases (1), Gastroenterology (2), Gynecology/Obstetrics (4), Immunoallergology (1 ), Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (5), Intensive Care Medicine (2), Internal Medicine (3), Nephrology (1), Neurology (2), Neuroradiology (1), Medical Oncology (1), Clinical Pathology (1), Pediatrics (2), Pulmonology (2), Psychiatry (3), Radiology (3), Public Health (1), Urology (1).

With regard to General Training, in order to deepen their knowledge in various clinical contexts, the interns will develop their training, in a supervised manner, in different specialties and services in the hospital units of Faro and Portimão (112) and also in the region's Health Centers (23).

The Hospital Pharmacy area of ​​the Algarve Local Health Unit received four new pharmaceutical residents who will complete their training program in the Algarve units.

João Ferreira, president of the Board of Directors of ULS Algarve, left a message for the new professionals where he highlighted the importance of the medical internship for the region, hoping that in the end «everyone can stay with us».

José Almeida, clinical director for the Hospital area at ULS Algarve, referred to the «true restructuring of the provision of health care in the SNS» that began two days ago, which gave rise to ULS Algarve.

«We live in a time of change in healthcare, which will require deep personal and professional involvement from all of us in a convergent and sustained way», he appealed to the inmates.

Rubina Correia, clinical director for the Primary Health Care area at ULS Algarve, also wished the new interns and residents “to remain focused on delivering the best care, based on the best scientific evidence, giving them the dedication and correction of in order to have efficient healthcare”.

This desire was shared by Maria Mora, head of the Regional Commission for the General and Family Medicine Medical Internship, who challenged the new interns to be “participatory, active and proactive”.

Paulo Morgado, president of the Algarve Regional Health Administration, an entity that is expected to be abolished this year, mentioned the importance of doctors listening to patients and how this can make all the difference, appealing to inmates to “have time for patients.” .

Hugo Pereira, mayor of Lagos, the city hosting this reception, once again mentioned the need to build the new central hospital, which would bring more dignity to the provision of healthcare in the Algarve, wishing all inmates and residents to “fall in love around the region and stay here».

This moment was shared by representatives of the Management of the Medical Internship, Ana Paula Silva, Nuno Vieira and Ana Paula Fidalgo, from the Board of Directors of the Local Health Unit of the Algarve, as well as the nurse director Mariana Santos, the clinical director for the Hospital area José Almeida and the clinical director for the Primary Health Care area Rubina Correia.

Also present were the director of Pharmaceutical Services at ULS Algarve, Brigitte Viegas, and the coordinators of the Faro and Portimão, Carmen Parreira and Paula Campos, respectively.

The new interns also had the opportunity to watch the transmission via streaming of the official reception ceremony for new intern doctors – general training and specialized training – and pharmacists who begin training in Pharmaceutical Residency, promoted by the Central Administration of the Health System (ACSS ), where the Minister of Health Manuel Pizarro, the representative of the Executive Board of the SNS Francisco Goiana and the presidents of the Orders of Doctors and Pharmacists were present.
