Tavira remains committed to installing shelters for cat colonies

The objective of this measure is to “facilitate population control of wild and stray cats living on the streets”

The Municipality of Tavira continues to focus on installing shelters for cat colonies, within the scope of the capture – sterilization – return program (CED program), and at the end of 2023 installed another structure like this in Conceição de Tavira.

In a note, the municipality reinforces that «caregivers must signal the appearance of new animals for the program to be applied, as well as when medical-veterinary care is required».

With the placement of these shelters, the Municipality of Tavira «enhances the positive aspects of the CED program and improves the conditions in which wild and wild cats belonging to a colony live».

This is one of the measures of the Municipal Plan for Animal Welfare and Protection which, in 2023, reached three locations, with plans to place these structures in another 15 colonies located in different parishes of the municipality.

The objective of this measure is «to facilitate population control of wild and stray cats living on the streets, allowing for a more efficient application of the CED (Capture – Sterilization – Return) program so that the number of cats does not grow uncontrollably».
